Diane Wiltshire is a mother, a former model, a writer, my mother's sister, AND the president and CEO of the non-profit organization reDressed, Inc. This organization provides clothing to domestic abuse survivors. Having been a victim of domestic violence herself, she works diligently within the private sector, to garner a supply of clothing that would be helpful to these survivors.
In the video below, Diane was commended by The Newark Municipal Council for her advocacy within not only her city of Newark, NJ, but for her nationwide efforts as well. She delivered a BREATH-TAKING speech at this conference that resonates so much with not only my experiences, but with my mission for Sober, Period. When she said "fashion saved my life", THAT. HIT. HOME. And I hope it can empower those of you who resonate as well.
For those of us who "don't look like what we've been through", this is for us. For those of us whose pain and struggles don't get taken seriously... and we either get taken advantage of or completely disregarded when trying to reach out for help because we "don't look like we need help", this is for us. For those of us who have considered or attempted suicide because nobody understands or even makes the effort to attempt to, this is for us. And for those who have succeeded in unliving, I am so sorry you felt as though you were alone and were not reached sooner. You were not alone.
We are not alone.
