I fell in love with depression, because it was familiar.
I fell in love with depression because it was close, something I carried around the most.
It was something I learned to wear as if it were my clothes.
I fell in love with depression, because it was so very easy to mask...
l'd dress up my up so that no one would ask.
My depression started when I was a child...
Low self esteem, depression took over my mind.
I wore depression like clothes, gone unaddressed my life was a mess.
I fell in love with depression because it was real, feelings all over the place.....
HOW DO I HEAL?!

Update: Koumba Yasin published a book on April 18, 2025, now available on Amazon.
"My name is Koumba Yasin. I'm a survivor of many traumas, including incarceration. This is the story of my journey of healing from a life of incarceration and addiction, and how I’ve made a difference for those also impacted by trauma and drugs. I've risen from the wreckage of my past grateful for the gift of poetry and the ability to tell my story. I hope that even if readers are unable to identify with the struggles I've faced, my navigation of healing and resilience will show you my true self -- a woman who is becoming a better version of herself every day."
